Ground & Suspended Slabs in Darwin
When the Ground Floor Isn't the Only Floor
Suspended slabs are one of the most technically demanding elements in concrete construction. They carry the full load of the structure above them while spanning unsupported, which means the formwork, reinforcement and pour sequencing all have to be right before a single cubic metre goes in.
T & M Concretors has been laying suspended and ground slabs on multi-storey residential and commercial projects across Darwin for more than 45 years. The Larrakeyah Apartments project is a great example of the scale and complexity we're set up for — a multi-level residential build that required precise slab staging across multiple floors.
Ground slabs present their own set of challenges around here. Reactive soils, seasonal moisture variation and the demands of the wet season all influence how a ground slab is designed and laid. We know this ground. Call us on (08) 8941 8819 to talk about your build.

Suspended and Ground — What Each Scope Involves
Residential High-Rise
Suspended slab construction for multi-storey apartment buildings across Darwin. We manage the slab scope in coordination with the structural formwork programme. Our formwork contractors and slab crew work as one team.
Commercial & Carparks
Suspended concrete slabs for commercial office buildings, retail centres and multi-deck carpark structures. Load requirements and span lengths on commercial suspended slabs demand close coordination with the structural engineer from the start.
Ground-Bearing Slabs
Reinforced ground slabs for residential and commercial buildings across Darwin. Sub-base preparation is critical in the Territory. We assess soil conditions and drainage requirements before any concrete is placed.
Raft & Waffle Pod Slabs
Raft and waffle pod slab systems for residential construction on reactive or problem soils. These systems distribute load more evenly across the sub-base and are commonly specified by engineers for Darwin's soil conditions.
The Larrakeyah Apartments Project
The Larrakeyah Apartments project is one of the clearest examples of what T & M Concretors brings to a multi-storey residential build. The project involved suspended slab construction across multiple levels, requiring careful staging of the formwork and slab pours to keep the construction programme on track.
Projects like this sit at the intersection of our structural formwork expertise and our suspended slab capability — two scopes that are far easier to manage when a single contractor holds both. For builders and developers tendering multi-storey projects in Darwin, that's a meaningful advantage. Our commercial concreting and industrial slabs and hardstands capability rounds out the full concrete scope for mixed-use or complex developments.

Common Questions About Suspended & Ground Slabs
A ground-bearing slab sits directly on a prepared sub-base and transfers its load into the ground beneath it. A suspended slab spans between supports — walls, columns or beams — and carries its load without contact with the ground below. Suspended slabs are used in multi-storey construction where the slab forms a floor or ceiling element between levels. They're more complex to design and construct than ground slabs because the formwork must support the full weight of the wet concrete until it reaches sufficient strength to be self-supporting.
