Concrete That Does More Than Hold Things Up

Exposed aggregate and decorative concrete finishes have become a serious architectural consideration on both commercial and residential projects. The finish you choose affects how a space looks, how it weathers over time and how it performs underfoot, particularly in Darwin's climate where UV exposure and tropical rainfall are year-round factors.

T & M Concretors has been delivering exposed aggregate and decorative concrete finishes across Darwin for more than 45 years. We work on commercial architectural projects where the finish is a deliberate design decision, and on premium residential builds where the driveway, patio or pool surrounds are as considered as the house itself.

Finishes We Deliver

Multi-storey building construction — exposed aggregate and architectural concrete

Exposed Aggregate

The aggregate in the concrete mix is revealed by washing back the surface before it fully sets. Stone size, colour and texture can be varied to suit the project. Exposed aggregate is widely used on driveways, pathways, pool surrounds and commercial plazas across Darwin.

Honed concrete finish — Darwin NT

Honed Concrete

The surface is ground back to expose the aggregate and produce a smooth, flat finish. Honed concrete works well in commercial interiors, covered outdoor areas and architectural applications where a cleaner, more refined look is needed.

Broom and brush finish — Darwin NT

Broom & Brush Finish

A textured surface finish applied by dragging a broom across the concrete before it sets. It's the most common finish for practical outdoor applications — driveways, footpaths and hardstands — where slip resistance matters more than appearance.

Pattern imprinted concrete pavers and garden edging

Pattern Imprinted Concrete

Texture and pattern are pressed into the surface while the concrete is still workable, producing effects that resemble stone, tile or brick. Used on driveways, entertaining areas and commercial pedestrian surfaces where a decorative result is required on a concrete budget.

Two Markets. One Standard.

Commercial Applications

On commercial projects, decorative concrete is often specified by the architect or landscape designer as part of a broader material palette. We work from those specifications and coordinate with other trades on programme.

Commercial applications include plaza paving, building entries, car park surfaces and retail forecourts. Our commercial concreting team handles the structural elements while the decorative finish crew manages the surface work.

Residential Applications

For residential clients, the most common scopes are driveways, pathways, pool surrounds and entertaining areas. The finish choice is usually driven by aesthetics, maintenance preferences and budget. We walk residential clients through their options before any work starts.

The difference between finish types isn't always obvious until you see them side by side. Our residential concreting covers the broader scope of residential concrete work we deliver.

Common Questions About Exposed Aggregate & Decorative Concrete

Exposed aggregate concrete performs well in tropical climates when it's mixed, placed and sealed correctly. The main considerations in Darwin are UV exposure, which can fade certain aggregate colours over time, and the wet season, which puts pressure on any surface that isn't properly drained or sealed. A penetrating concrete sealer applied after installation and reapplied every few years extends the life of the finish and makes the surface easier to clean. The aggregate itself — typically stone or gravel — is highly durable and doesn't degrade under normal conditions.
